Rady Children’s Hospital Acute Care Pavilion

Aesthetics provided integrated interior design that in corporated art and wayfinding services for the 279,000 sf. Acute Care Pavilion addition to Rady Children’s Hospital.
The project consisted of 16 OR suites, a NICU containing individual patient rooms, an in-and out-patient HemOnc Unit, and 146 patient rooms, each featuring a sleep-over family zone. The project was completed in October 2010 and the total building cost of was $260 million. It is one of California’s first LEED-certified acute care hospitals.
A “Sea to Space”floor identities allow visitors to take a journey as they ascend the four-story building. Thematic textures, repeated in the upholstery, walls, and in the art, add coherence to the space and create a less clinical atmosphere.
Rich and sophisticated color palettes engage children and adults. Graphics, furniture and art were used to enliven both patient and clinical spaces. The result is a calm and peaceful healing journey embodied in a wealth of intriguing and uplifting details.
