St. Joseph Mercy Oakland

The St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Healing Arts Program is aimed at enhancing the patient experience while promoting the healing of body, mind and spirit.

Studies have concluded that the physical environment is not simply a back­drop, but rather an integral part of the hospital experience. As a result, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland designed its new South Patient Tower and the Healing Arts Program to compliment the healing environment, with the intention of enriching the patient experience and nurturing the patient on his or her health journey. Benefits of this approach include support for the healing process, improved health outcomes and reduced stress.

Studies also show that artwork plays an important part in the healing environment. These studies inspired St. Joseph Mercy Oakland to invite some of Michigan’s finest artists to partner in the Healing Arts Program by contributing original art pieces in a variety of media. Produced exclusively for the center, the paintings, sculptures and other artwork are integrated into each floor of the new South Patient Tower and help to provide a calming and restorative environment for patients, their families and friends.
